Nurturing Minds Through a Balanced Preschool Curriculum
The preschool years are a time of discovery, growth, and learning. At Windermere Union Church Preschool, our curriculum is designed to help children develop cognitively, physically, socially, and spiritually. Through hands-on activities, play, and guided lessons, children build essential skills that prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.
Readiness Program
Our Readiness Program helps children develop early literacy and math skills through practical, engaging activities. Children learn to classify objects by size, shape, color, and pattern while establishing foundational habits, such as reading from left to right.
Daily experiences encourage letter and number recognition.
Activities include rhyming, sequencing, music, crafts, games, and storytelling.
Pre-K focuses on kindergarten readiness: fine motor skills, alphabet recognition, beginning letter sounds, number writing, and name writing.
Motor Skills Development
Motor skills are a key focus in our curriculum. We foster gross motor development through playground play, block-building, and KinderGym, where children practice throwing, catching, hopping, skipping, balancing, and jumping.
Fine motor skills are enhanced through puzzles, scissors, crayons, play dough, and bead stringing—preparing children for writing and other classroom tasks.
Music Program
Music plays an important role in physical, cognitive, and language development. Children explore rhythms, instruments, and singing, which help sharpen listening skills and expand vocabulary.
Language Development
Language skills are nurtured through interactive activities like “Show and Tell,” storytelling, verses, and teacher-led discussions. Children learn object names, body parts, and vocabulary related to weekly study units, supporting early literacy and communication skills.
Chapel and Moral Values
In Chapel, children learn moral values, good manners, and basic Bible stories through puppetry, storytelling, and songs. This program emphasizes character development alongside spiritual growth.
Social Growth
Social skills are fostered through group activities, cooperative projects, and classroom responsibilities. Children take turns as leaders, snack helpers, door holders, and cleanup assistants. Sharing, listening, and caring for their environment are integral parts of daily life.
Creativity
Creativity is encouraged every day. Children explore various materials—crayons, markers, glue, colored paper, play dough, and paint—through guided and independent projects. Artistic activities not only foster imagination but also strengthen fine motor coordination necessary for writing. Completed artwork is proudly displayed in classrooms and hallways.
Study Units
Our curriculum is enriched through weekly study units that focus on a central theme. Activities such as stories, music, crafts, projects, and field trips reinforce learning around topics like:
Community Helpers
Communication
Transportation
Weather
Animals, Birds, and Insects
Families and Friends
Seasons
Travel
Holidays
Parents receive updates on each study unit through the monthly class calendar, keeping families engaged in their child’s learning journey.
